How to properly convert currency?
We are often seeing that our attendees send us less or more than they should, resulting in an unpaid balance, overpayment, and inconveniences on both sides.
Common mistake is that the attendee does not use the option of a payment in a different currency. Many banks and internet / mobile banking apps allow their clients to send money in a different currency than their account is listed in - meaning that they can choose to send the money in CZK (and pay for the fees for currency transfer). In such cases, we always receive the correct amount and you don't need to worry about anything else.
Unfortunately, we are aware that not every bank (mostly overseas ones) offers this option. Attendees then tend to simply Google "CZK to EUR" and send an approximate amount of money based on their search result. That is, however, incorrect. Google automatically shows the best exchange rate for selling currency, which is, unfortunately, strongly different from the exchange rate for buying currency, which is the one the bank uses for currency transfer. This is why we've prepared this simple manual which will help to minimize the deviations in your payments.
For this example, let's pretend you are sending us money from your Euro (EUR) account. On the day when you are planning to send the payment (ideally right before doing so) open this webpage Raiffeisen Bank - Currency rates. The first line in the table is the one we're looking for - it shows us current exchange rates for Euro currency (EMU).
Take your payment amount and divide it with the currency exchange rate for "Non-cash Buy". The result is the amount in EUR you're going to send us. Simple, right?
Let's say your payment is a total of 8000 CZK. Take the "Non-cash Buy" exchange rate from the Currency rates website (23,762 on the picture above) and divide the total payment with it - so 8000 ÷ 23,762. You should have a total of 336,67. That is the amount of Euro to be deposited into our account. Don't forget to pay for the transfer fees here as well, otherwise you risk an unpaid ballance on your side!
Notice, that if you simply Google "8000 CZK to EUR", the total amount in EUR is significantly different from the one we calculated above (differs by 12 EUR during writing of this manual).
If you are sending the payment in different amount than in EUR (eg. USD, HUF or others), simply scroll down on the Currency rates website to find your currency. Always use the number in the Non-cash Buy column!
Why do we use the Non-cash Buy column? When sending money from one bank account to another, it is always non-cash, because we are not directly handing physical cash into each others hands. Buying means that our bank has to "buy" the currency from your bank and then exchange it itself to deliver us our account's currency.
